Yesterday, the agent opened a repository, found the relevant code, understood the task, changed the right files, ran the tests, and explained what it had done like a competent adult who had, at some point in its life, held a job.
Today, the same agent — same product, same model name, same effort setting, same monthly bill — has spent twenty minutes repeatedly discovering the file I named in the first sentence, like a goldfish doing a lap of honor around the one castle in its bowl.

There was no patch note saying Reduced object permanence by 40% or Agent may now forget the task while actively performing it, the way a toddler forgets it is holding scissors. The label on the machine did not change. The price did not change. Only the thing inside the box got dumber, like a hotel swapping your king bed for a cot while you were asleep and billing you for the suite.
Somewhere a product manager is looking at a GPU utilization graph, watching it dip below target. One might think that’s actually the whole business model. Sell a genius in the demo, ship a paste-eater on Thursdays, and call the difference “variance.”
